Which VERSION of SLIC am I using? What's available now?
You may want to know if there is a newer release of the SLIC stock listing software package available, but to answer that, you'll need to know what version you have. In the broadest sense, SLIC has lived through three generations: DOS versions, Contractor 2K or SLIC 2000 versions, and the newer SprinkSLIC versions.
The DOS versions run back to the software's inception. You would know if you are running a DOS version because you are clearly in a DOS "black screen" environment. The most likely version numbers you would see on screen as you launched the program would be 4.0 or 4.6, and the program would have a numbered list of options in the main screen instead of the standard Windows list of pull-down menus across the top edge. You should contact Support to upgrade to the latest release at no charge.
The Contractor 2K version, which includes the releases called SLIC 2000, has an opening splash screen that features the words "Contractor 2K". Also, the executable file is named SLIC2000.EXE. This was the original Windows-compatible version of SLIC. There have been a number of releases, and the only noticeable differences are the executable file dates and the minor improvements made along the way. You should contact Support to upgrade to the latest release at no charge.
Our latest version is named SprinkSLIC. The opening splash screen features the SprinkSLIC logo. This version is also Windows compatible. The version number is visible in the Help -> About SprinkSLIC... menu item. You may check for updates using the Help -> Check for Updates... menu item from either SLIC or BASE.
